  • Seamless services: Treatment for complex conditions draws on the expertise of additional providers, like neurorehabilitation therapists and neurosurgeons. We also coordinate with primary care providers to ensure precise, efficient care.

  • Lifelong support: Our movement disorder specialists develop lasting relationships with patients, enabling us to adjust therapies to address their changing needs. Patients coming to us from great distances may be eligible for follow-up services via virtual visits

  • Leadership: Our team participates in national research that is advancing movement disorder treatments. We also host continuing medical education events that help providers throughout our community learn about the latest research findings and best practices.

Movement disorder services and programs

Some of our locations are among only a few in the Puget Sound that offer these services:

  • Our experienced movement disorder specialists frequently diagnose issues based on your symptoms and a neurological exam. Advanced assessments available through our neurodiagnostic laboratory determine what’s causing your symptoms so you receive appropriate therapies.

  • Medications can treat movement disorder symptoms, such as tremors, rigidity and cramping. Botulinum toxin injections can help ease muscle contractions that occur with cervical (neck) dystonia and blepharospasm (eyelid twitching). If movement disorders are due to a medication side effect, your neurologist may recommend other drugs.

  • Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is home to one of the leading deep brain stimulation (DBS) programs in the Puget Sound. This treatment delivers gentle electrical pulses to tissue deep within the brain, giving you better control over Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other move disorders.

  • Neurorehabilitation services help you get symptom relief and maximize your independence. A physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor specializing in neurological disorders guides your care.

  • In addition to movement disorder specialists, people with Parkinson’s disease may see a dedicated nurse, speech therapist, occupational therapist and physical therapist. We perform assessments and adjust treatments to optimize your quality of life.
