Department of Urology Visiting Professorship

The Department of Urology Visiting Professorship invites prominent physicians, scientists and thought leaders in the fields of urology to deliver a guest lecture and engage in informal round-table discussions with peers at Virginia Mason. The visiting professorship aims to foster communication across national and international lines to stimulate innovation, improve practice, and inspire novel clinical, research, and quality initiatives in urology. Its goal is to bring exceptional senior scholars who can contribute to and enrich the community's research, education, quality and innovation endeavors.

While on site, visiting professors meet with members of the Urology team for the purpose of discussion and education. They do not have direct patient contact or provide clinical care of any kind. A Virginia Mason provider sponsors every visiting professor and is responsible for directing the professor’s lecture content and arranging round-table participation of mutual interest to the professor and the team. The sponsor serves as the visiting professor’s main contact point during the day of the lectureship.

The Department of Urology is pleased to welcome H. Albin Gritsch, MD, FACS, as Visiting Professor on Friday, October 11th, 2024.

Dr Gritsch is a Clinical Professor of Urology at UCLA and the John Jergens Chair in Kidney Transplantation. He has expertise in the transplantation of adult and pediatric patients with complex urinary reconstruction.

Dr Gritsch received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at UCLA School of Medicine. Following his residency, he served as a fellow in Transplant Immunology at Harvard Medical School and Renal and Pancreas Transplantation at UPMC Presbyterian. Dr. Gritsch’s research interest is in the development of new ways to facilitate rapid recovery from renal transplant and kidney donation operations.
