Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Birth Center

Important update - Seattle Family Birth Center and clinic closure:

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Family Birth Center and Franciscan Women’s Health Clinic in Seattle, effective Nov. 16, 2024. Delivery services will end Nov. 12 and providers will continue to see patients through Nov. 15.

We deeply regret any inconvenience or concern this may cause. Our top priority is doing everything we can to ensure a smooth and supportive transition of care for you.

We are working closely with each affected patient to develop personalized plans for their continued care. If you are scheduled to deliver after Nov. 12, we want to reassure you that high-quality maternity care will still be readily available through our other Family Birth Centers, including St. Anne Hospital in Burien, which is just 12 miles away.  Our other Family Birth Centers will remain open, including St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, and St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale.

If you need help finding a new physician, we recommend contacting your health insurance representative/plan, or speaking with your provider to obtain a list of referrals. Should you have any questions, please contact us at 206-287-6300

Attention Edmonds Patients: The family medicine clinic at the Virginia Mason Medical Pavilion in Edmonds is not closing. We will continue to provide family medicine and prenatal care to our patients. If you are scheduled to deliver after Nov. 12, we will work with you to transition your care to the family birth center of your choice. For those who prefer to remain closer to the First Hill neighborhood, we will assist in coordinating care with another hospital system to meet their needs.

At the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Birth Center we provide a birth experience created with you in mind. Our expert medical team has a unique, collaborative care philosophy where we design and deliver your birth plan together—patient and provider working as a team.

Our 20,000 square-foot birth center is located at the Floyd & Delores Jones Pavilion (Level 16) at Virginia Mason in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood.

TeamBirth: Personalized care with a team approach

We are proud to use a model of care called “TeamBirth,” which centers you in all health care decisions made throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum. TeamBirth uses frequent “huddles” to ensure everyone knows what is happening and why – at every step of the way.

Patients love the TeamBirth model because if a decision needs to be made, it doesn’t happen at the nurses' station; it happens in your room. If you don’t understand something, you have a chance to clarify things with your whole care team during huddles. This not only involves you in all decisions, it leads to better communication all around, which results in better care for you and your baby.
