Headache Care

Migraine and other headache disorders can impact your well-being in many ways, including mood, concentration, comfort, sleep and overall quality of life. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is one of the few health systems in the Pacific Northwest offering comprehensive headache care.

Headache treatment at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health: Why choose us?

Our headache specialists are board-certified neurologists with expertise in headache medicine, including those with advanced fellowship training. All experts stay current on the latest research and draw from a broad range of treatments that bring relief.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Prescription headache medicine: Our team offers the latest proven headache treatments. Specialists carefully select the options and doses that are right for you. Our depth of experience helps reduce pain with fewer side effects.

  • Botulinum toxin and other injections: We are one of the few programs in the region offering botulinum toxin for chronic migraine. If symptoms are due to nerve issues, you may benefit from a nerve block. Both injections give you more options for healing if standard treatments aren’t successful.

  • Nonprescription treatment options: Our care plans may include nutraceuticals, physical therapy, exercise and lifestyle recommendations to help headaches.

  • Coordinated care: We work with additional Virginia Mason Franciscan Health providers whenever necessary. If you have sleep issues, we refer you to a sleep medicine specialist for additional testing. Some headaches cause depression and anxiety. Our experienced mental health providers help you get peace of mind.

  • Advanced options: Our neurologists work closely with neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists to manage difficult-to-treat headache types, such as trigeminal neuralgia and other facial pain.

When should I see a headache specialist?

When headaches disrupt your daily life and over-the-counter drugs aren’t working, visit your primary care provider. If the treatments they recommend are not successful, our headache specialists are here for you. We excel in all types of headache disorders, including migraine and rare conditions causing scalp and facial pain.
