Matthew Metsker, PA-C, MPAS, MHA, CMPE, assumed the position of president at St. Clare Hospital in May 2024, and is known for his inclusive- and consensus-driven leadership style. As president, Matthew provides administrative leadership for St. Clare to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with strategic business plans, professional/clinical standards, and regulatory requirements, while also producing high quality, cost effective health care outcomes. 

In addition to this role, Matthew also provides operational leadership to Virginia Mason Franciscan Health’s critical care and inpatient pulmonary medicine team in partnership with his physician dyad partner, Eliot Fagley, MD. 

Before joining St. Clare, Matthew spent five years leading VMFH’s Mission Control and Virtual Hospital operations, turning them into hubs of efficiency and progress. With 17 years of experience as a hospitalist physician assistant, Matthew sees operations through a clinical lens. He also served as the APP co-director of the Franciscan Inpatient Team (FIT), and later, the site medical director and section head for hospital medicine at St. Anthony Hospital. 

A Puget Sound native, Matthew holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Western Washington University, as well as master’s degrees in both physician assistant studies from Pacific University and healthcare administration from Ohio University.
