Heart Diseases We Treat

At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, our heart specialists personalize your care to ensure the best possible outcome. From diagnosis through recovery and long-term follow-up, we’re with you at every step.

Types of heart conditions we treat

We provide expert treatment and prevention for all types of heart conditions, including:

  • An arrhythmia is a heartbeat that is too slow, too fast or irregular. Some are mild and only require monitoring, but others can be life-threatening.

Our high-volume electrophysiology program features specialists who diagnose and treat all types of heart rhythm disorders. Our depth of experience allows us to perform complex procedures on the most difficult-to-treat arrhythmias, including long-standing, persistent AFib. • Coronary artery disease (CAD) is caused by plaque buildup inside your arteries. Over time, CAD can lead to angina (chest pain) or a heart attack.

Our specialists provide comprehensive care for any stage of CAD. From prevention to lifestyle changes, medication, surgery and rehabilitation, we cover all your needs. Learn more about coronary artery disease and heart attack.

  • Heart failure occurs when your heart doesn’t pump enough blood for your body’s needs. It can result from CAD, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Heart failure can get worse over time, but treatment can help you manage the condition. Learn more about heart failure symptoms, tests and treatments.

  • If you have heart valve disease, one or more of your heart’s valves may not open and close properly. Valves can be “leaky,” letting blood through when they should be closed, or unable to fully open for proper blood flow.

Structural heart disease is a term that describes an abnormality in your heart’s structure, including its valves, arteries, chambers, muscles or walls. Read more about the different types of heart valve and structural heart disease and their treatment methods.

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic (inherited) heart disease. Thickening of the heart muscle can interfere with blood flow out of your heart. HCM requires specialized treatment from an experienced team. Learn more about our nationally leading HCM Center at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.
