Michael Nuara, MD, is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in surgery of the nose and ears; facial nerve reconstruction; microtia reconstruction; facial cancer reconstruction; and gender affirming facial surgery.
Dr. Nuara is a member of several committees and co-chair of the facial reconstruction subcommittee within the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Medical Association, American Society for Cosmetic Surgeons, Northwest Academy of Otolaryngology and Washington State Medical Association.
Dr. Nuara serves as a clinical instructor with the University of Washington Otolaryngology Residency Program and Program Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. He is a manuscript reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. He also volunteers for medical missions abroad as a cleft lip and microtia surgeon.
Away from work, Dr. Nuara enjoys cycling, photography, nature and cooking.

Dr. Michael Naura leads with his heart. He's unlike others in remaining invested in not only his work, but every individual seen. Michael listens, he "gets" people and that's something not easily found in today's "greed-driven" corporate culture of fast-food medicine. Virginia Mason is lucky to have Michael and his staff a part of the facility.

Informed, knowledgeable, attentive, patient, and caring, Dr. Nuara listened carefully to my concerns, clearly communicated treatment options, and collaborated with me In developing a treatment plan. He also went out of his way to accommodate my disability (I am legally blind) and to make me feel comfortable and cared for on a very difficult day. I feel lucky to have the chance to work with such a great surgeon and human being.

Particular care was taken to deal with my poor hearing and need to lip read. There was no hesitation to repeat a summary when I asked for this to be certain the I had accuratly heard what I thought they were saying, I believe that I correctly underdtood what was offered and have no false impression of the amount of repair. Care was taken to expain what and how the procedure would be done, and what would be the likely affect. This is of particular appreciated when one is almost deaf.
