The first thing to know about weight loss surgery is that there are several options.
The most common weight loss procedure, the sleeve gastrectomy option, is a form of bariatric surgery where part of the stomach is removed to reduce food intake.
This procedure creates a smaller stomach pouch to reduce food intake and intestinal bypass to reduce calorie absorption and produce significant weight loss results.
The procedure removes a large percentage of the stomach and reroutes the intestines. It limits food intake and reduces calorie absorption.
For those who have already undergone bariatric surgery, these options may help address persisting complications or incidences where significant weight loss wasn't realized.
Our surgeons and facilities are accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. This designation, awarded to a small percentage of facilities across the nation, acknowledges our commitment to providing safe, quality, and specialized care for our bariatric patients. The Center for Weight Management offers several bariatric clinic locations near you. Call for more information or to schedule an appointment at one of the following locations:

Fifteen million Americans have been diagnosed with morbid obesity, and many are candidates for bariatric surgery. You may be a candidate for bariatric surgery if your body mass index (BMI) is greater than 40, or if your BMI is greater than 35 and you experience severe, weight-related side effects. For your convenience, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has a BMI calculator to find out what your BMI is.
If your BMI is greater than 40, more than 35 with two or more serious medical conditions (arthritis, depression, GERD (acid reflux disease), high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, eating disorder, high blood pressure, sleep apnea), you may be a candidate for bariatric surgery. Register below to learn more about your options by taking our Online Seminar today.
If your BMI is less than 35 with no serious medical conditions, you may benefit from the non-surgical weight loss options offered at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Learn more about medical weight loss.
