Virginia Mason Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center named America’s Best-in-State Hospitals by Newsweek

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) is proud to announce that Newsweek magazine has named Virginia Mason Medical Center (VMMC) and St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) among America’s Best-in-State Hospitals. VMMC ranked #1 and SJMC ranked #9 in Washington state.

“I am incredibly proud of the teams across Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and remain grateful for their ongoing commitment to our patients and upholding the highest quality of care,” shared Ketul Patel, CEO of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and President of the Northwest Region, CommonSpirit Health. “This commitment to excellence sets us apart as an organization, and this honor illustrates the remarkable progress we are making every day.”

The prestigious recognition is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., and ranks the nation’s top 700 hospitals. The underlying data analysis is based on four pillars:

  1. Hospital quality metrics from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the American Hospital Association Annual Survey of Hospitals Database, and accreditation data from various sources.

  2. Nationwide online survey among medical professionals (doctors, hospital managers and healthcare workers).

  3. Results from HCAHPS patient experience surveys.

  4. Statista Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation scores.

VMFH continues to set the standard for clinical excellence, with national and international recognition for both its hospitals and service lines. From Healthgrades to American Heart Association, Healthcare Equality Index, Becker’s Healthcare, and countless more, the work by each employee is being recognized and celebrated throughout the year.
