Critical Care Nurse and Seahawks Dancer Spreads Holiday Cheer at Virginia Mason Medical Center

Normally, Meghan Horn would be tending to patients in the Critical Care Unit at Virginia Mason Medical Center (VMMC). This last week, she traded scrubs for her Seahawks “snowflake” dance attire to spread holiday cheer to patients.

Joined by fellow dancer Macy, Meghan visited patient rooms to see how their day was going, snap a few photos, and pass along fan t-shirts and autographs to 12s in the hospital. The dancers offered patients and families a welcome escape, sparking conversations about football.

“It was refreshing to see them light up,” Horn said. “The patients we visited today had wires and IVs attached to them and most are having a hard time. It was so nice to see the smiles on their faces, and see that we could bring some light to their day.”

Horn has worked as a nurse at VMMC for three years, and this is her second season as Seattle Seahawks dancer.

"Connecting with patients and their families allows me to provide truly holistic care,” Horn explained. “I'm able to understand their history and needs beyond just medications and assessments, treating them as individuals.”

Being a Seahawks dancer connects to Horn's love for community. Year round, you can find the dancers not just on the field but out and about making connections, especially during the holiday season.
