The hospital receives accolades for cancer, cardiac, neurological, and orthopedic care

Virginia Mason Medical Center has been recognized on Newsweek’s inaugural list of America’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2024 in several categories including cancer, cardiac, neurological, and orthopedic care. The America's Best Specialized Hospitals 2024 ranking awards the 200 leading cancer hospitals, 175 leading cardiac hospitals, 175 neurological hospitals, and the 175 leading orthopedic hospitals in the U.S., as well as highlighting notable treatments. The underlying data analysis is based on four data sources:

  1. Nationwide Online Survey: Health care professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about the respective medical field were asked to recommend the leading specialized hospitals in the U.S. The survey was also promoted on newsweek.com.

  2. Hospital Quality Metrics: Hospital quality metrics with a focus on indicators relevant to specified care were considered.

  3. Results from Patient Experience Surveys: Survey of patient experience during hospitalization.

  4. Statista Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) Implementation Survey: Voluntary PROMS implementation survey to determine the status quo of PROMs implementation, audits, and reporting of data.

Virginia Mason Medical Center is a part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, and is one of 10 hospitals and medical centers located in the Puget Sound Region.  The Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Rehabilitation Hospital (Tacoma) was also recognized by Newsweek this year in its 2024 "America's Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers" ranking.
