Two Long-time Virginia Mason Specialists Named Executive Medical Directors for Virginia Mason Franciscan Health

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is proud to announce that Dr. Joseph Rosales has been named Executive Medical Director for the Center for Cancer Care and Dr. Michal (Misho) Hubka has been named the Executive Medical Director for the Center for Digestive Health. Both of these centers are critical service lines for Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) and Dr. Rosales and Dr. Hubka are outstanding clinicians as well as physician leaders.

Dr. Rosales is a Hematologist-Oncologist who specializes in lung and esophageal cancer treatment and is passionate about health equity. Dr. Rosales has been at Virginia Mason since 2011 and has been the section head of oncology since 2018. He is an active clinical researcher and was awarded the Binaytara Foundation “Rising Star in Health Equity” Award in 2022.

Dr. Rosales is board-certified in internal medicine and in the subspeciality of hematology and medical oncology.

Dr. Hubka began his medical journey at Virginia Mason as a general surgery resident in 2010, then went on to specialize in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Washington before returning to Virginia Mason. Dr. Hubka is a thoracic surgeon who specializes in robotic approaches of complex thoracoesophageal disease and leads the Thoracic Surgery Department. He is also very involved in teaching and academic research. He contributes to system-wide improvement efforts at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, most recently leading our lung cancer screening effort. He is also part of the Oncology Clinical Institute at CommonSpirit Health. He was most recently the Director of the Virginia Mason Cancer Center.

In their roles, they will both be responsible for advancing their respective service lines, delivering state-of-the-art care and exceptional outcomes with a tireless commitment to individualized care, research and innovation.
