The following residency training programs offered by Virginia Mason are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The residency programs at Virginia Mason are small and highly competitive. Our interview season begins Mid-November, with invites being sent out by Nov. 17. Our last wave of invites will be sent out, at latest, by Jan. 31.
Virginia Mason participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) where applicable.

Virginia Mason only accepts application materials through the AAMC's ERAS program.
All applicants must be candidates for an MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine or college of osteopathic medicine upon application.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is REQUIRED prior to the start of our resident training programs. Make sure you sign up for an ACLS certification course during your fourth year. Check with your Dean’s office regarding ACLS training information.

We review ALL application documents to make our applicant selection. Applicants are selected based on their academic credentials, preparedness, aptitudes, abilities and communication skills, as well as personal qualities, such as motivation and integrity. Our interview season begins in mid-November and extends through December. Applicants who are not selected for interviews will receive a letter of regret.
Graduates of international medical schools applying for internship or residency, must submit the above required application documents and must have applied for, or hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be considered for an interview.
Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must meet the current requirements for an appropriate U.S visa* as specified by the United States government.
*Virginia Mason Graduate Medical Education considers J1 Visa or permanent resident status.

Benefit and salary rates are designed specifically for residents and fellows to support your educational experience. Each year, advancement to the next PGY level results in progression on the salary scale. Information provided here reflects current packages and details are expected to be updated prior to the upcoming academic year.
Meal stipend is provided to each resident for purchase while on service (amount is determined annually).
Parking for all members of the house staff is provided by the medical center while on service.
White coats and scrubs are provided for all members of the resident staff.
Residents are eligible for financial assistance to attend medical meetings. To be eligible to receive financial assistance, the following criteria apply:

The medical center pays the initial limited licensure fee in the state of Washington. Two years of postgraduate training are required for permanent licensure in the state of Washington. DEA certification is also reimbursed by Virginia Mason.
Photocopying of material for educational purposes of the housestaff will be provided by the medical center.
All Virginia Mason Medical Center interviewing activities will occur "virtually" in 2024. Applicants invited for an interview will be provided additional materials and Zoom links, along with instructions for scheduling best dates to interview—through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).
