Frequently Asked Questions - Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

  • We will be selecting 2 fellows each year. There will be a total of 6 cardiovascular disease fellows by year 3 of the program.

  • The program will be primarily based at St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) in Tacoma. However, there will be rotations at both Virginia Mason Medical Center and St. Michael Medical Center. You will be able to live in Tacoma proximity and commute to the other hospitals (45-minute drive).

  • Applicants will be selected through the NRMP match process and are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

  • Graduates of international medical schools applying for residency must submit the above required application documents and must have applied for, or hold a valid certificate from the educational commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be considered for an interview. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must meet the current requirements for an appropriate U.S. visa as specified by the United States government. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Graduate Medical Education considers J1 visa or permanent resident status.

  • We actively sponsor the professional teams in the area, including the Mariners (baseball), Seahawks (football), and the Kraken (hockey). You will have the opportunity to participate in community events and also attend some of these games.
